New England Equal Longest Victory Run From Brady Years with Win Over New York Jets
Rookie Henderson has scored five scores in the present year
The New England Patriots tied their longest winning run since the Brady era as they defeated AFC East rivals the Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout Henderson led the way with three scores as the New England squad claimed an eight-game winning streak for the first time since iconic QB Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in 2019
QB Drake Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a score, completing 25 passes from 34 throws
The win extends the Patriots advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they improved to a 9-2 record, with the Jets at the foot after falling to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had scored first at Foxborough with quarterback Justin Fields running in a five-yard touchdown to conclude the Jets' initial series
But the Patriots answered in the second period as the rookie scored two seven-yard touchdowns before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Maye at the back of the endzone in the middle of the third period to push the score to 21 to 7
"It was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been great for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback commented on the rookie. "He aims to be outstanding."
Fields found Metchie toward the end of the third period to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the Patriots wrapped up the victory
